Otis Taylor, a longtime wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs who helped the team win its first Super Bowl in 1970, passed away, the organization announced on Friday.
Taylor, who worked for Kansas City for over ten years, passed away on Thursday after a protracted struggle with dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
“The Kansas City Chiefs organization mourns the loss of Otis Taylor. In our grief over his demise, my family and I would like to send our deepest condolences to Otis’ wife Regina, his sister Odell, and the whole Taylor family “In a statement, Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said.
“Otis spent his whole 11-year career as a Chief, and he was crucial to the early development of our brand. With his hallmark touchdown in Super Bowl IV, he cemented his status as a Kansas City legend and helped the Chiefs win our nation’s first Lombardi Trophy, “Clark continued.
“He was one of the most inventive receivers of his time and contributed to the position’s revolution. He was compassionate and devoted to his community away from the field. His family is in our prayers and in our thoughts. Becoming a Chiefs Hall of Fame member ensures that Otis’ legacy will endure forever.”

Taylor was never inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame despite his numerous accomplishments, including two Pro Bowl selections, two seasons with 1,000 yards, and the legendary 46-yard touchdown reception that helped the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
Dawson once remarked, “Otis made my work easy. You knew Otis would catch the pass if you got it to him. Taylor, an AFL MVP and two-time champion, was a Chiefs player from 1965 to 1975. He had 57 receiving touchdowns and 7,306 yards overall before his career ended.
Taylor’s family filed a lawsuit against the NFL in 2012, alleging that the league was legally responsible for Taylor’s health problems, which started with seizures in 1969. Taylor was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1990, and the disease and its associated dementia were later discovered in Taylor.
