Ryan Keeler, a recent graduate who died on Monday in Las Vegas, is mourned by the Nazareth community. Keeler played football for Nazareth Academy before enrolling at Rutgers to start his college career. In 2021, he changed to UNLV.
Tim Racki, the dean of students and head football coach at Nazareth Academy, issued a statement to NBC Chicago in which he claimed, “We are grieved by the loss of a member of the Nazareth Family, especially someone so young. Ryan was a cherished part of the football team.
Ryan was a selfless leader who continuously inspired his teammates with love, laughter, and compassion in addition to his amazing abilities as a competitive competitor on the field. More significantly, he left a legacy that is still felt today and was a fantastic mentor to many of our younger players.
“The outpouring of kindness from our Nazareth community has touched our hearts. The entire Keeler Family is currently in our thoughts and prayers.”

No official cause of death has yet been given, but there is no indication of foul play, according to TMZ.

The first-year head coach of the UNLV football team, Barry Odom, expressed his devastation at losing a member of the Rebel family on UNLV.com. “Even though I only had the pleasure of getting to know Ryan for a short while, our coaching staff immediately recognized him as a fantastic guy, student, and teammate. We send Ryan’s family our thoughts and prayers as we mourn this tragic loss with them.”
According to UNLV president Keith E. Whitfield via UNLV.com, “Words are hard to come by this evening as we grieve the abrupt and tragic passing of UNLV student-athlete Ryan Keeler.” “At this extremely trying time, my warmest condolences are with Ryan’s family, friends, loved ones, and teammates.”
Keeler had just finished his first season playing the defensive line with the Rebels, compiling eight tackles and one sack over the course of seven games. He was a pre-business student with a 3.80 GPA, earning Academic All-Mountain West recognition.
