Shonka Dukureh, an Elvis impersonator, had now passed away for a known reason. She unfortunately passed away last month at the age of just 44; the actor who played Big Mama Thornton in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic of Elvis Presley.
Police discovered Dukureh dead in her Nashville home on July 21. One of her minor children had found her body unconscious and had gone to ask a neighbor for assistance. The neighbor instantly dialed 911, and the emergency services arrived at the residence, but they could not discover any indication of criminal activity.

The Davidson County Medical Examiner’s office in Tennessee reports that singer Shonka Dukureh passed away naturally. According to the search report, “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease” was the official cause; she is not suffering from any disease.
High blood pressure is also referred to as hypertension, and atherosclerosis is the deposition of lipids, cholesterol, and other chemicals in and on the walls of the arteries. This causes the arteries to be narrow, block blood flow, and potentially burst, resulting in a blood clot, according to Johns Hopkins Medical.
In the bedroom of the Nashville flat she and her two young children shared, Dukureh’s body was discovered on the morning of July 21. When one of her kids saw her unconscious, the other went to a neighbor’s apartment to dial 911.

“Shonka was just starting to find a larger audience for her tremendous talent, and I got to see her uplift whole crowds of people at Coachella and beyond,” Luhrmann wrote of Dukureh upon her passing. “A favorite word of Shonka’s, in daily use, was ‘blessings,’ and I, along with the entire Elvis cast, crew, and musical collaborators, feel truly blessed to have had time with her.”
Elvis, starring Dukureh as Big Mama Thornton, the famous R&B singer-songwriter who initially released “Hound Dog,” was the Nashville resident’s first movie. She might also be spotted in the Elvis soundtrack song “Vegas” by Doja Cat from earlier this year.

Dukureh has worked with a variety of artists, including Nick Cave, Mike Farris, Jamie Lidell, and the Royal Pharaohs, in addition to Elvis. She was also going to put out her first full-length record before she passed away.
“Gratefulness is where I live cuz [sic] my granny, gmama, momma, family modeled and instilled it in me,” she wrote just one week before her untimely death.
