Taylor Lautner has been here before at the VMAs. Lautner dated Taylor Swift for a few months in 2009. He went back in time to talk about his ex-girlfriend, which isn’t something he usually does. What made them do this? Lautner’s wife, Tay Dome, asked him what time in his life he would choose to go back to if he could.
“Probably the 2009 VMAs,” Lautner declared on their podcast The Squeeze as seen in a Feb. 1 TikTok, “when I presented the award to Taylor and was unaware that the Kanye [West] thing was not a skit.” (As for how his wife felt about his answer? As she noted, “I’m deceased.”)
Lautner, who is 30 years old, went on to talk about that night, saying, “I gave her the award, so I now own the award. I moved back five steps and was five feet behind her. And in the middle of her thank-you speech, Kanye jumps up on the stage.” The Twilight actor said that at the time of the famous moment in pop culture history, he couldn’t take in much of what was going on in front of him.
“I can barely hear it. I can’t see them,” Lautner explained. “I’m just assuming this whole thing was a practiced and rehearsed skit, because why else would Kanye West be jumping on the stage interrupting Taylor Swift? It just didn’t make sense.”

Lautner said that he ended up laughing on stage along with the joke, but it wasn’t until he saw Swift’s face that he realised it wasn’t part of the show.
“He jumped off. She finished. The second she turned back around and I saw her face for the first time, I was like, ‘Oh. No. That wasn’t good.'”
As for what happened after that? Well, Swift’s song “Back to December,” which came out in 2010, seemed to be about that night. Lautner has said that the song is about their relationship. The popular song’s lyrics are about a night in September and seem to be about the 2009 Video Music Awards, which were on September 13.
She sings, “I miss your tan, your sweet smile/So good to me, so right/And how you held me in your arms that September night/The first time you ever saw me cry.”
Now that time has passed, Lautner and Swift have both moved on to new relationships. Lautner and his wife, who is also named Taylor Lautner, got married in November after being together for more than four years. As for Swift, she has been with her boyfriend Joe Alwyn since 2016.
