With Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps serving as executive producers and co-stars, the Netflix sitcom ‘The Upshaws’ is a guaranteed laugh riot. The comedy revolves around the eccentric members of the titular African American family and their acquaintances, who all live in Indiana. The Upshaws Season 2 Storyline
In the first episode, ‘The Upshaws’ introduces the family that bears its name. An up-and-down auto repair shop is owned by Bernard “Bennie” Upshaw, a hard-working mechanic. When it comes to family, he has a wife Regina, and two daughters: Aaliyah, an adolescent, and Maya, a toddler. Bennie and Regina are high school sweethearts who had a baby while still in the midst of their studies. Bernard Jr., the family’s eldest, is now an adult and lives on his own, estranged from the rest of the family since he blames Bennie for his father’s neglect.
The Upshaw family, a black family attempting to build a name for themselves, is the focus of the show. Their down-to-earth demeanor endears them to the viewer. While Bennie is a mechanic, his wife is a nurse. Aliah and Maya follow Jr in order of birth order. Bennie and his ex-girlfriend had a son, Kevin, together.

Aside from Regina’s sister, Lucretia (Sykes), Lucretia is Bennie’s biggest critic. To his wife, she takes advantage of every opportunity to point out his weaknesses.

With Bennie’s reputation as a scumbag, she’s able to take advantage of a lot of those changes. Lucretia has been a financial supporter of Bennie’s decision to operate his garage, and she constantly reminds him of that fact. Along with Duck, an ex-con who converted to Christianity while incarcerated, we get to know Bennie’s longtime companion and confidant.
Season 1 is littered with Bennie’s blunders, much to his wife’s dismay and to Lucretia’s delight. It becomes clear that Duck has a strange crush on Regina after Bernard Jr.’s admission to the family. Aaliyah is frustrated by her family’s financial difficulties at a time when she is trying to gain popularity at school. When Regina gets tired of Bennie’s shenanigans, she expels him from the house.
