Murray graduated from Clarence High School, which is located in Clarence, New York. He had an interest in reading and football and became a fan of both. He suffered a broken nose while he was in his late teens. Because of this, rumors spread throughout his career that he had cosmetic surgery performed on his nose. For example, in a 2004 interview, Murray elaborated, “When I was 18, I was attacked in a Burger King and had to have my nose surgically relocated. It was a group of three dudes, and I had no idea what to do. In this case, the physicians didn’t even take X-rays. It was simply reset. But I despise the idea that people say it was a nose job when it wasn’t.”
