On a Friday afternoon in New York City, hundreds of people gathered in Union Square to attend a giveaway held by the wildly famous Twitch broadcaster Kai Cenat and his fellow streamer, Fanum. According to TwitchTracker, Cenat has the most subscribers of any broadcaster on Twitch.
Union Square Park, where the giveaway was to take place at 4 p.m. ET, was already packed with people by 3 p.m.
Cenat had previously broadcast a video from inside a car in which he discussed giving away many PlayStation 5s and displayed a large quantity of $100 gift cards. When Cenat gets out of the car, the mob soon turns on him and his companions, creating a chaotic scene in the video.
A roughly three-minute broadcast by Cenat was also published on Twitch, although it didn’t reveal anything. ABC News reported on Saturday that streamer Kai Carlos Cenat III had been freed from detention early on Saturday morning after being handed a desk appearance ticket on charges involving at least two counts of inciting a riot. A police official told the AP that Cenat’s court date is set on August 18.
As of this writing, Kai Cenat’s AMP (Any Means Possible) group’s Instagram story is the sole public comment from those engaged in preparing the event, in which they say, “We apologize to all of those impacted, and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.“

New York Police Department Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said, “We do have him,” in response to queries about Cenat during a news conference held following the event. Maddrey did not clarify in which precinct Cenat was being held.
According to Maddrey, the postings became viral at roughly 3 p.m. ET, although the NYPD was made aware of them at around 1:30 p.m. He said that the police had to remove Cenat from the park because of the crowd’s aggressive behavior before they could declare the gathering illegal.

On Friday, Maddrey addressed the media for a second time, saying that Cenat will be prosecuted with “at least two counts” of instigating a riot and illegal assembly.
He informed the press that a total of sixty-five people had been arrested, thirty of whom were minors, and that several civilians and police officers had been taken to the hospital for treatment following the event, with at least one adolescent having been injured by fireworks.
On Friday, both Cenat and Fanum maintained their social media presence until suddenly stopping all activity. In one of their Instagram stories (which was later deleted), they said, “I love you guys to the fullest you guys are amazing, THE LOVE FROM HOME BASE IS REAL, Please be safe.“
