Two 10-Year-Olds Arrested In Gun Sale At School
The incident at Country Oaks Elementary School resulted in one arrest, according to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office. Carlos Santos Madrid, 10, was found to have weapons in his rucksack, according to deputies.
According to the sheriff’s office, on February 10, 10-year-old Jaiden Diego Escobedo consented to trade a $300.00 handgun—later discovered to be his father’s—for another weapon.
The gun was discovered in Madrid’s garden, under a shed, according to a release. Along with a baggie containing about 74 grams of marijuana, deputies claim to have found a gun.
After being taken into custody, Madrid was accused of selling or buying a firearm by a minor, having a firearm unlawfully, possessing a firearm on school property, and having more than 20 grams of marijuana in his possession.
Following his arrest, Escobedo was accused of grand theft, unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, selling a firearm to a minor, and possessing a firearm on school property.
The sheriff’s office mentioned that Escobedo’s mom works as a Deputy at the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office. She has been put on leave while they look into what happened. Both kids have been taken into the care of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Hendry County School District posted an update on Facebook in this regard.
