After entering a ride with a driver who was texting on his phone, a Summerfield woman was nabbed with a syringe at the passenger’s seats. The Tavares Police Department reports that Veronica Grace Brewer, 34, was a passenger in a beige GMC SUV driven by Danny Baldwin, 50, of Grand Island late Tuesday night.
A police officer had seen Baldwin texting while traveling on State Road 19. A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene after a traffic stop was initiated. Drugs were detected in the vehicle based on a dog’s alert.

In the course of a pat-down, Brewer had a “concerning bulge in the groin area of her pants.”Brewer confirmed it was a needle after the officer suspected it was a syringe.
Two needles were found capped, with a straw found and a bag containing 3 grams of methamphetamine. In addition to the discovery of methamphetamine, Baldwin also had drug paraphernalia.
The two were taken into custody and booked into the Lake County Jail. In addition, Baldwin received a written warning for texting while driving.
