If you have upgraded to the latest firmware, your MagSafe Battery Pack can now charge at a faster 7.5W. The MagSafe Battery Pack can now charge iPhones at 7.5W faster, according to a new Apple support page. If you’re not familiar, you must update your accessory to the most recent firmware version 2.7.b.0.
If you are still using an older version, your MagSafe Battery Pack will only be able to charge at a rate of 5W. To upgrade your MagSafe Battery Pack, simply attach the item to the back of your iPhone and then wait for the process to complete.

How to Update Your Magsafe Battery Pack’s Firmware
The MagSafe Battery Pack can be updated to the newest firmware in two methods. The simplest (though not the quickest) method is to just attach the MagSafe Battery Pack to the back of your compatible iPhone, and it will automatically update over time. However, Apple estimates that the process will take around a week if done this way.
The MagSafe Battery Pack can also be connected to an iPad or a Mac. To upgrade the firmware using a Mac or iPad, plug one end of a Lightning to USB-C cable into the Lightning connection on your battery pack and the other end into your Mac or iPad. It will take roughly five minutes to perform the firmware update.
How to Check Your Magsafe Battery Pack’s Firmware
For your MagSafe Battery Pack to offer 7.5W charging speeds when portable, it must be running firmware version 2.7. To view the firmware version of your MagSafe Battery Pack, navigate to Settings > General > About > MagSafe Battery Pack. For it to appear, you must have your MagSafe Battery Pack connected to your iPhone.

If you want to see how much power is left in your MagSafe Battery Pack, add the batteries widget to your Today View or Home Screen. To begin, make sure you have iOS 14.7 or later installed. Follow these steps after you’ve done that:
Go to Today View (swipe left to right from the Home Screen page) or the Home Screen page where you want to install the battery widget. For a jiggly background, touch and hold the background until the applications start to move.
- Touch and hold the background until the apps begin to jiggle
- Tap the “+” in the top left corner of the screen to open the widget gallery
- Scroll or search to find ‘Batteries’
- Tap on the Batteries widget and swipe left through the size options. The different sizes display different information.
- When you see the size you want, tap ‘Add Widget’
- Tap ‘Done’
MagSafe Battery Pack will automatically display in the Batteries widget and you can check how much battery it has when attached to your iPhone. If you connect the MagSafe Battery Pack and then plug in the Lightning connector, you may charge both the battery pack and your iPhone at the same time.
