When Doja Cat arrived at Schiaparelli’s most recent runway show on Monday, she dazzled observers with a spectacular head-to-toe outfit decorated with red body paint and 30,000 Swarovski crystals.
Makeup artist Pat McGrath and her colleagues spent over five hours perfecting the striking look, explicitly created for the model by the fashion house’s creative director Daniel Roseberry.

The biannual Haute Couture Week in Paris started dramatically as the singer arrived at the Petit Palais in Paris for Schiaparelli’s Couture Spring-Summer 2023 show. According to Roseberry’s show notes, the label’s most recent collection, “Inferno Couture,” was influenced by Dante’s “Inferno” and the nine circles of hell.
A silk bustier, a skirt covered in lacquered wooden beads, and a matching pair of crimson boots made up Doja Cat’s suitably sinister attire. On Monday, McGrath referred to the style as “Doja’s Inferno” in a post on social media.

The makeup artist also shared a time-lapse video from behind the scenes of how her crew painted the star’s skin and manually applied thousands of crystals. McGrath referred to the singer’s “sublime patience” as “inspiring” in the caption of another video.
In the meantime, Roseberry, who in 2019 made history by becoming the first American to head a French fashion brand, shared a photo of himself with Doja Cat on Instagram while praising the “genius” of the makeup artist.

Doja Cat and stylist Brett Alan Nelson came to the performance while dressed in similar red Vetements suits and long jackets. She then sat in the front row a few feet from Kylie Jenner, who also garnered attention for her life-size faux lion head-adorned black velvet strapless gown.
Other examples of Schiaparelli’s “faux-taxidermy” were on display on the runway, and models, including Naomi Campbell and Irina Shayk, walked the runway wearing similar animal headdresses.
