In a move aimed at easing the burden on Floridians, Governor DeSantis has unveiled the Florida Toll Relief Program for a second consecutive year! This initiative promises to bring relief to commuters navigating the state’s highways and byways. But what exactly does this mean for residents of the Sunshine State? Let’s delve into the details!!

Once more, drivers who frequently use Florida’s toll roads might save money on those expenses. On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis declared that the state’s Toll Relief Program would be returning for an additional year.

Drivers who use SunPass or another Florida transponder and record 35 or more toll transactions in a month will receive reimbursement from the state using $450 million in funding. A 50% credit will be applied to the accounts of qualified drivers.

At a press conference on Monday, Governor DeSantis stated, “That is a way for us to provide relief for folks, given that we’ve been in this inflationary period. You’ve got groceries and all these other things.”

Many drivers use the state’s toll roads on a daily basis, whether they are traveling for work or a rideshare.

“Four to five times a week,” Anna Maria Island resident Patty Shay stated. “Usually I come up here and then I turn around and I go back again.”

Regular travelers along the coast report that the toll roads cause them to accrue large expenses.

Shay remarked, “The gas adds up. The tolls add up. I can’t even tell you how much I spend in tolls over a month. It’s quite a lot.”

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) estimates that in 2023, over 1.2 million drivers will have saved $500 million in total.

“Which you figure, if you’re working full time, you’re going to do that on a monthly basis, no problem,” DeSantis said.

Monday marked the official start of the relaunched toll alleviation program, which will last until the end of March 2025. In May, drivers who qualify for rebates will begin to get them.
