A local news station reports that Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A new chapter was being written in Dwayne Haskins’ NFL career. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 24-year-old quarterback was hanging out with several of his teammates as he prepared to contend for the starting job. That’s when he was taken away from us. When Haskins was hit by a dump truck early Saturday morning while walking on a South Florida highway, he was killed instantly. Lt. Indiana of the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that Haskins had been pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to an email statement, “He was trying in vain to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 while there was approaching traffic.” As far as Miranda was concerned, he didn’t know why Haskins was on the roadway. Traffic was temporarily halted while authorities investigated what Miranda called a “open traffic homicide investigation.”
He was drafted in the first round of the 2019 draught by Washington, but Haskins only managed a 3-10 record over the course of two seasons. Last season, despite being signed by Pittsburgh as a developmental quarterback, he didn’t play a down. Mitch Trubisky, running back Najee Harris, and tight end Pat Freiermuth were all said to be in South Florida this week alongside Haskins, who appeared to be in the area with them.
Tributes have been flooding in from all throughout the NFL since Haskins’ passing, particularly from former Steelers and Commanders players. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he was “devastated and at a loss for words” over the death of Dwayne Haskins. After arriving in Pittsburgh, he soon became part of our Steelers family and was one of our hardest workers, both on and off the field. It’s hard to overstate how much Dwayne meant to so many people. I’m devastated beyond words.
This moment is especially difficult on his wife, Kalabrya, and the rest of his family.

Coach Ron Rivera of the University of Washington stated he was “very heartbroken” to hear of Haskins’ passing.
In a statement, Rivera described Dwayne as “a gifted young man who has a long life ahead of him.” “I’m at a loss for words at this sad time, and I don’t know what to say.” “He will be greatly missed,” I can say on behalf of our entire team. During this difficult time, our entire staff extends our deepest sympathies and prayers to the Haskins family.”
Ohio State tweeted a picture of Haskins, with the caption “Leader. Legend. Legendary.” “A Buckeye for life.”
With 50 touchdowns and 4,831 yards, Haskins set a single-season record as a quarterback at Ohio State. The Buckeyes finished the season 13-1, and he was named the game’s MVP.
Ryan Day, the quarterbacks coach at Ohio State during Haskins’ final season, described the loss of Haskins as “beyond terrible” in a statement.
People who were familiar with Day’s character would agree that he was more than a talented football player. When I met him, I was struck by his enormous heart, old spirit, and contagious smile. We are all devastated by the loss of our beloved Ohio State University and our entire football team.”
Will this one ever get old?

The Steelers gave Haskins a chance to resurrect his career in January 2021 when they signed him a month after being released by Washington. Haskins said he was grateful for the opportunity to learn from the likes of Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph. When Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was put into the COVID-19 protocol the night before the game, Haskins was called into the starting lineup as a backup.
It was a sad day when the world lost a terrific person, Pittsburgh Steelers star TJ Watt tweeted. The first thing I noticed about Dwayne when he entered the changing room was his positive attitude. When he was alive, he was always making people happy and never taking life for granted.” As a restricted free agent in March, the Steelers were happy to re-sign Haskins after both Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert noted the quarterback’s progress since joining the team. Rudolph and Trubisky were both expected to contend with him in training camp.
Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward tweeted that “Dwayne meant so much to so many people.” You wanted to be around him because of his infectious smile.” We’re all in disbelief that he’s gone. He’ll be sorely missed by all of us. We were too young to say goodbye to you. I’m glad I had the opportunity to get to know you, too. There will be no more DHs.
The death of Haskins was initially reported by ESPN.
