At the Grammy Awards 2022, Lady Gaga paid tribute to her Love for Sale co-star Tony Bennett. Having been introduced by Benett in a pre-recorded video, Gaga went on to sing for the first time at the Grammys in 2019. Following the introduction, Gaga sang Love for Sale in a Tiffany blue satin dress. Before continuing on her own, she sang Do I Love You by the duo. Videos portraying her friendship with Bennett began to play in the background, causing the crowd to shed tears.
During the video montage that played in the backdrop, Lady Gaga sang the line, “I love you, Tony, we miss you.” Take a few moments to look around. In his opening monologue at the 2022 Grammy Awards, Trevor Noah makes fun of the Will Smith-Chris Rock feud.
It was just one month before Love on Sale, the band’s debut album was set to be released in September 2021 that Ben Bennett announced his retirement from live performance. Composer and singer-songwriter Cole Porter is honored on their CD. In addition, Gaga and Bennett’s collaboration was recognized with a Grammy for the best traditional pop vocal album.
Gaga disclosed that she and Bennett had worked together on a song in the album’s trailer, which was published last year. She said something to the effect of, “Being able to do this brings me great delight. Because I get to sing these songs in the studio, I feel like I’m savoring the nectar of ecstasy that the rest of the world doesn’t get to enjoy or hear.”
Gaga and Bennett performed at the Grammys in 2015 following the release of their first album, Cheek to Cheek. After Bennett’s short-term memory began to fade, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease a year later.
