Since Amber Heard’s highly-publicized defamation court defeat to her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, there have been rumors that her time as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was up.
Depp, 36, and Heard, who had been married a year, divorced in 2016. Depp received $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages; however, the latter figure was ultimately lowered to $350,000 in accordance with Virginia law. Depp sued Heard for an opinion piece she published for the Washington Post in 2018 that he said implied he was an abuser.
In her countersuit, Heard won $2 million, but Depp is now contesting that. Heard is now pursuing additional legal action against an insurance provider she believes ought to cover the judgment.
During the six-week trial, there were rumors that Warner Bros. had slashed Heard’s role and was seeking a new actress to play Mera in the sequel to last year’s box office success (reports in September suggested she was still onboard).
Former Game of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke, who fans are still interested in seeing take over, was one of the front-runners for the part.
In some recently produced fan art, Clarke is depicted exactly as she would seem if she assumed the role.

Digital artist Deigo de Sousa has released a stunning new piece of concept art that shows Clarke in the role, wearing the iconic costume that Heard first wore in Aquaman and the character’s signature auburn hair.
When you see what Clarke could look like as the famous DC Comics character Mera, it’s easy to see why so many fans want her to play the role. Fanatical opinions.
Warner Bros. Discovery hasn’t said if they plan to change who plays the role, but executives have said they are thinking about it.
Earlier this year, Walter Hamada, the President of DC Films, testified in the Depp/Heard trial. He said that there had been talks about recasting the role because Heard and Momoa didn’t have “chemistry.”
Fans may want Clarke to join the DCEU in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but she is not in the cast. If you look up the cast of Aquaman 2 on Google, you might think she is.
Clarke’s name comes up in the casting carousel when you Google “Aquaman 2 cast.”
