Depp was born John Christopher Depp II on June 9th, 1963 in New York City, New York. He has received several honors, including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, as well as three Academy Award nominations and two British Academy Film Awards nominations.
His first film role was in 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, and he went on to star in the television series 21 Jump Street from 1987 to 1990 as a teen superstar. Actor Johnny Depp worked mostly on indie films during the 1990s, frequently portraying outlandish characters.
Benny and Joon (1993), Dead Man (1995), Donnie Brasco (1997) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1997) were some of the other films (1998). Also in 1990, Depp began working with Tim Burton, acting in films such as “Ed Wood” and “Sleeping Hollow” (1999).
By playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films (2003–present), Johnny Depp became one of the most commercially successful cinema stars of the 2000s.
Tim Burton collaborated with him on Finding Neverland (2004), which gained critical acclaim, while the films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005–2006) and Alice in Wonderland (2007–2009) were economically successful (2010). When the Guinness Book of World Records included Depp on its list of the world’s highest-paid actors in 2012, he earned a total of $75 million.
After forming Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in the 2010s, Depp started producing films under his firm, Infinitum Nihil.
From 2015 until 2017, Depp was wed to actress Amber Heard. Their divorce was well publicised since she claimed that he had been violent to her during the course of their marriage. Defamation suit filed against Heard in 2019 after she penned an op-ed about being a public victim of domestic abuse; the case will be tried in 2022.
Depp sued for defamation in 2019. In an unrelated libel claim in England, he also sued The Sun’s publishers. As of 2020, the High Court of England and Wales decided Depp had lost his libel action that the bulk of Heard’s charges had been proven to a civil standard.
