According to reports, Kevin Spacey told a judge in Los Angeles on Monday that his father’s racist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic attitudes made it difficult for him to come out to the public as gay.
Spacey has said of his father, Thomas Fowler, “My father was a white supremacist and a neo-Nazi.” I’ve never discussed these issues in open conversation before. I grew up in a really complex family dynamic, he said.
I had a pretty complex family dynamic growing up,” he continued.
Spacey made the admission on the witness stand in New York City during a $40 million civil action he is involved in against American actor and singer Anthony Rapp.
At the age of 14, Rapp claims Spacey made sexual attempts toward him. This allegedly occurred in 1986. Rapp has claimed in his own evidence that Spacey isn’t who he says he is, making him a liar.
According to ‘Variety,’ Spacey added, “To call someone a fraud is to say someone is living a lie.” “Truthfully, I wasn’t leading a double life. To be honest, I was nervous about sharing such intimate details about my life.”

Spacey claims his father’s joblessness led to frequent relocations for the family. He claimed that his father’s xenophobic and racist lectures kept him from inviting friends over as a child and that he was “terrified” to listen to them.
He claimed that his father advised him to “don’t be an f-word” when he informed him he wanted to pursue acting. (Spacey explained that he avoided using the word because it would be seen negatively in a court of law.)
Oscar winners for his roles in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty” and as the lead in the Netflix series “House of Cards” made Kevin Spacey one of the most respected performers in Hollywood. However, according to ‘Variety,’ Spacey’s career collapsed after Rapp accused him of sexual assault in a 2017 BuzzFeed story and additional accusers made similar charges against him.
