Together with the sheriff’s office, nonprofit organizations, and police, 45 pages of planning went into creating the strategy.
Eric Rinehart, the state attorney for Lake County, has noted that there has been a noticeable improvement in the percentage of homicides solved, which went from 50% to 70%. The initiative is being pursued with the use of cyber resources and other tactics.
Rinehart said, “The office has increased victim support through various programs, and expanded the number of support professionals and forums than ever before. We have more counselors. We have more bilingual lawyers. We have more therapists than ever before for all victims, but especially for victims of gun violence. As we strive to support all of those victims, we know that prevention stops crime before it happens.”
Rinehart also mentioned a 41% decrease in homicides.
