Local Middle Schoolers In Eastlake Prepare for 12-Hour Charity Dance
Students at Eastlake Middle School are preparing for a 12-hour dance marathon. In an effort to raise money and educate others about autism, over 100 sixth and eighth graders have made the commitment to stand nonstop from noon till midnight without any breaks or chance to sit down.
A sponsorship of $75 is raised by each student for the Autism AwareNESS Dance-A-Thon. The students’ term for the event is “NESS,” which they derive from the awareness they acquire from taking part. The 12-hour marathon’s earnings go toward supporting regional programs and resources for autism.
“NESS” began at Eastlake Middle in 2010. It is based on Penn State’s “Thon,” an event that raises funds for the battle against pediatric cancer. The event has raised $143,000 for autism programs and research throughout the years.
Staff members of Eastlake Middle School choreograph a line dance to start off the 12-hour uninterrupted movement extravaganza. You are welcome to show your support on April 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
You can mail a donation to Eastlake Middle School at 35972 Lakeshore Blvd., Eastlake, OH 44095, or you can make a donation in person to assist the students there. For further information, give a call at 440-942-5696.
