Marry Me Now, an upcoming reality series on OWN, will put women in control of their own love lives, and PEOPLE was the first to get a look.
Marry Me Now follows eight Houston-based women who are in long-term relationships but have marriage aspirations. The show is hosted by relationship coach and author Rebecca Lynn Pope. It’s for this reason that they decide to plan their own weddings and make their own marriage proposals.
“One woman is guided by Rebecca on a weekly basis as she takes control of her relationship by secretly planning a surprise wedding and ending with a public proposal to her partner. This in just three days, you’d think “A network description reads. “The bride-to-be shocks her partner with the proposal and (hopefully) exchanging vows,” says the author, “from finding the perfect dress to breaking the news to both families.”
Regardless of whether or not they make it to the altar, the featured women will leave with clarity.
Marry Me Now premieres on PEOPLE with a one-minute trailer in which the eight women have to overcome a series of challenges before they can walk down the aisle. Nearly all of the celebrities’ endeavours are met with scepticism and concern.
When a woman tells a hopeful bride-to-be, “A man should ask a woman,” the other woman responds, “I don’t like that you have to be the one.” “I’m afraid my actions might irritate my partner,” a woman featured in the film says at one point.
Another woman looking for a husband says, “It’s a conversation that needs to be had, one way or another.” A glimpse of eight women’s marriage proposals to their mates is also shown in the trailer, which all appear to be surprised by the proposal.
As a second suitor’s suitor adds, “I was not expecting this,” one man wonders, “Right now?”
The premiere of Marry Me Now airs on OWN on March 19 at 9 p.m.
