The record company for the Mexican artist known as Peso Pluma announced on Wednesday that he had canceled an October performance scheduled for Tijuana, a city on the United States border. The 24-year-old, whose real name is Hassan Kabande, was threatened with death on several banners that appeared on four significant roadways in Tijuana.
Tijuana has been the scene of brutal conflicts between criminal gangs for years, and these gangs have often used the narrative drug trafficker ballads known as “narcocorrido” to market themselves and their activities.

Reggaeton, trap, and corridos tumbados (a hybrid of the traditional Mexican corrido and other urban genres with violent lyrics) characterize Peso Pluma’s sound. Others of his most well-known songs reference drug cartels, and others have accused him of apologizing for the drug trade in these songs.
Tijuana, where Peso Pluma was scheduled to play on October 14, has the highest proportion of the 1,399 homicides in Baja California state documented by the Mexican government through August.
Tijuana Performance Of Peso Pluma Postponed After Labels Get Death Threats
On Wednesday, a TikTok video surfaced claiming that Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, better known as the 24-year-old Mexican musician Peso Pluma, is the son of Adela Noriega, a former Mexican acting star, and Carlos Salinas de Gortari, a former president of Mexico.

In fact, the TikTok post included an old photo of the actress and the ex-president, and the child sitting between them was widely believed to be Peso Pluma. In the middle of this online speculation, Featherweight got death threats despite there being no evidence to substantiate the claim.
The AV Club reports that the threats were made against Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija via banners posted all around the city of Tijuana. Pluma was reportedly practicing at Estadio Caliente for his October 14 event, but he had to abruptly cancel in order to keep his team and audience safe.
The performance cancellation was revealed on Instagram Story by Featherweights’ record firms Douple P Records and Prajin Music Group.
The safety of the fans and the players is our focus. Due to security problems, we have decided to postpone our performance in Tijuana. We appreciate the patience of our devoted audience. Our affection for you is unending. Regards, La Doble P.

It was stated by Variety that billboards aimed at Featherweight advised him not to perform in Tijuana because it could be his “last performance,” with the blame placed on his “disrespectful loose tongue.”
While no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the death threats, fans believe they are connected to Pluma’s growing success in the United States and the fact that his music frequently addresses the drug culture and cartel control in Mexico.
Though the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel has denied responsibility, they have asked for an immediate investigation to be launched by the authorities after their initials were found on the death threat banners.
Recent events have prompted people to recall the late Mexican singer Valentin Elizalde Valencia. Fans of Featherweight have not only speculated about the possibility that he is related to Valentin (because of their similarities in looks and the nature of music) but have also compared Peso to Valentin for his bold music.
For those who are unaware, Valentin became popular in the 1990s for writing songs about drug cartels and gangs in Mexico. He was subsequently killed in 2006, allegedly at the hands of Los Zetas, a drug trafficking organization affiliated with the Gulf Cartel’s armed forces.
Some Twitter users have drawn parallels between Peso Pluma and Valentin Elizalde Valencia, and those comments are included below:

According to Variety, Pluma has canceled her scheduled shows across the United States, not just in Tijuana. Whether or not this has anything to do with the death threats in Tijuana is unclear at this time.
In a recent performance in New Jersey, USA, Peso Pluma became the first Mexican artist in the event’s 40-year history, demonstrating his expanding fame outside of Mexico.
In addition, in April of 2023, Pluma made history by becoming the first performer of regional Mexican music to appear on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on American television. AMG, PRC, Ella Baila Sola, and Genesis are some of Peso Pluma’s most well-known songs.
Both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200 have featured his music at the top spot. He took home the trophy for Best Reggaeton Hit at the MTV Millennial Awards 2023 for his single “La Bebe,” and he was nominated for three Video Music Awards the same year.
