During the course of eighty-five million years in Earth’s history, the Shannon family records their lives and transmits the dystopian overpopulation and hyper-foul current of the mid-22nd century.
Kelly Marcel, a British writer, and Steven Spielberg, the executive producer of the series, created the concept.
The story takes place in the year 2149, at which time global overpopulation and deteriorating air quality pose grave threats to life as we know it.
Researchers discover a time fissure that allows humans to go back in time to the Cretaceous Period, which prompts a series of “pilgrimages” to the parallel “time stream.”
James “Jim” Shannon, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy, and Zoe are the core of the story. They are a component of the Terra Nova colony, which is located there.

Terra Nova Season 2 Plotline
Terra Nova enlists Elisabeth Shannon, a scientist with two older children, as a member of its crew.
By stowing away to join the group, her husband, imprisoned for violating population control by harboring an infant and assaulting a reputable agent to protect his younger daughter, convinces the colony’s leader, Commander Nathaniel Taylor, that his own police information is of use to the administration.
There is a group of rebels known as the “Sixers” who oppose the colony and its leader, Chief Taylor. So named because they arrived in the “Sixth Pilgrimage,” working in concert with corporate industrialists to extract the Cretaceous Earth’s resources and transport them to 2149, allowing for huge profits at the expense of environmental catastrophe…
A few days later, it is revealed that Lucas, the eldest son of Commander Taylor, is working for the Philadelphia 76ers. A personal fleet is known as “The Phoenix Group” led by businessmen known as “The Phoenix Group” invades Terra Nova at the end of the series.
Jim Shannon returns to 2149 at the end of the series to destroy the doorway to the Cretaceous, after which the Phoenix Group flees to the nearby “Badlands,” departing at the back of a timber ship’s figurehead oddly positioned there by some other time fissure.
