The Owners Plotline

Despite the fact that Dr. Richard Huggins and his wife Ellen live out in the country, Gaz, Nathan, and Terry have decided to break into their house because it is supposed to contain a large safe full of cash. Having to deal with Nathan’s girlfriend Mary, who shows up to pick up her car so she can go to work on time, is a bit of a pain. After the boys are unable to open the safe, she finally enters the residence after a long wait.

Her pregnancy news is revealed once they’ve entered the house. They tie the Hugginses up and try to intimidate them into opening the safe when they return. Seeing that Richard remembers Nathan and Terry from their childhood, Nathan is reluctant to go on the heist. Gaz stabs Nathan in the back in an attempt to gain control. He then tries to harm Ellen, but Mary kills him with a sledgehammer before he can do any more damage. At some point throughout the process of removing the couple’s ties, Ellen appears to recognise Mary.

Richard conned Terry and Mary by pretending to call for an ambulance and proposing to perform surgery on Nathan in order to get their attention. Ellen then discreetly gives Terry a medicine that causes him to see Mary’s twin sister, Jane, who went missing a few months ago and is assumed to have escaped from the family home.

That they have been deceived, Mary deems it. When Richard tries to get Terry to join him for a cup of tea, they talk about the loss of their daughter, Kate, and the disappearances of several adolescent females in the neighbourhood. Following Mary’s realisation that they are a threat, she attempts to flee but is unsuccessful. Only to be shot by Terry in the back when they get at the garage

Richard teases Mary about her impending death as she bleeds out, despite the fact that he and his wife were spared by her from Gaz. He also informs her that he and his wife had kidnapped and imprisoned several girls in their safe, which is actually a vault where they would disguise them as little children and call them “Kate.” Girls who didn’t work out, it is implied, were murdered and disposed away.

That said, the most recent victim of their kidnapping does match the bill. When Richard finally cracks open the vault, he finds Jane, Mary’s older sister, within. When Mary’s blood supply eventually runs out, she has one more vision of her long-lost sister in shackles before she passes out. Terry and Jane are imprisoned in the vault as a thank you from the Hugginses for their assistance.

Finally, Terry’s mother talks to the Huggins family about her son’s abduction, completely oblivious of their involvement and the existence of Mary’s freshly buried corpse in the garden, along with Gaz and Nathan.
