According to the news outlets, a man in South Carolina, USA, drowned while escaping police who were genuinely searching for someone else. When Greenville County deputies went to a house on July 23 in order to serve a warrant, something happened. A 38-year-old male inside began to run and leap into neighboring Lake Cunningham upon seeing them.

The deputies explained that he was not the intended recipient of the arrest warrant, though. Their purpose was to deliver a warrant to an individual who had neglected to show up for court. Notably, “a girl” who resided at the same location was served by police deputies.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office stated on Facebook that Chuck Gilbert Shelton “ran from the residence for unknown reasons” when deputies showed up at his Greer, South Carolina, home on Sunday afternoon.

The Facebook post read, “Deputies say the man swam a short distance before going underwater and not resurfacing. GCSO deputies on the scene jumped into the water to locate him but were unsuccessful. The GCSO dive team responded and was able to locate the subject, who was determined to be deceased. The Lake Cunningham Fire Department and Lake Cunningham Warden also responded to the scene.”

The coroner’s office stated that Mr. Shelton died from an unintentional freshwater drowning, according to NBC News affiliate station WYFF. Later that afternoon, divers recovered his body.

Currently, his family is trying to raise money for his funeral through a GoFundMe page. The post reads,  ”Hi, I’m Cynthia I’m raising money for my sister to help bury my nephew! She had no insurance for him and this was very unexpected! Please help me help her do what we need to do to get him a proper memorial service.”
