The most notable musical allusion in Stranger Things’ most recent season is the usage of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” Joseph Quinn, aka Eddie Munson, is at the core of Season 4’s musical universe, both within and outside of the program. The “Chrissy, Wake Up” remix has gone viral, Doja Cat showed interest in him, and he gave a well-known performance of Metallica’s “Master Of Puppets” on the program.
Now, Quinn has made his late-night television debut on The Tonight Show, where he spoke with Jimmy Fallon about all of those topics. Fallon asserted throughout the conversation that “Master of Puppets” had become “the No. 1 song in the country” as a result of Stranger Things, which was untrue. The genuine “No. 1 song in the country” is whatever is at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, not a genre-specific ranking from a single platform. Eddie Munson is adored by the internet. It’s safe to say that everyone who watches Stranger Things is either obsessed with Eddie Munson or a mix of the two. You don’t have to? You may be secretly guilty of it. Because of Joseph Quinn’s portrayal of Eddie, who is a dark and twisted joker who loves rock music and flashes a dazzling smile, the audience is led to believe that he genuinely cares about everyone around him (even the other members of the Hellfire Club).
We were lucky enough just to talk to Joseph Quinn the day that Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2 was released and while there will be no spoilers here, it was quite a journey to talk to the man who has taken over the internet as everyone’s new favorite character. I started off our chat at the roundtable by asking him what it feels like to see how the internet has reacted to Eddie and his performance in the show.

“I guess it’s a relief really. I think kind of when you join a program like this you’re aware that people are fairly passionate about it and the fans that live in that universe. So I guess kind of the fact that people have been so polite and welcoming to Eddie was a bit of an exhale,” Quinn added. “But kind of the enormity of the welcome has been utterly disarming. I wasn’t expecting that at all.”
His response to the remix of “Chrissy Wake Up” that has taken over the internet? “But the remake is pretty funny it’s… pretty, pretty, pretty funny. And it’s so stupid and I’m so glad that they did it. “It’s absurd.” When Eddie tells Chrissy that Vecna has kidnapped him, the music plays over and over in her head like a broken record. If you haven’t heard it, it’s a remix of Eddie’s phrase. It will become the song that will save you from Vecna if you’re not careful.
However, I receive no royalties,” Quinn responded with a wry smile. After singing the song, he said, “It was a little nerve-wracking. In the middle of the pandemic, no one had seen any live music in a long time. One of the best times of my life was spent with Gaten. Even though I was nervous, the experience was similar to a rock concert, and I got to experience what it’s like to be a rock star for the night.
There was also a well-known remix of “Chrissy, Wake Up” that was played by Fallon, courtesy of the Gregory Brothers, aka Schmoyoho (the group behind “Bed Intruder Song”). I guess I got maybe 15 minutes today where stuff wasn’t floating around in my head, which is wonderful to have back,” Quinn said. “I think it’s hilarious,” I agree.
