Lake County Florida News exists to give Lake County residents accurate, fair and useful local news. This policy explains how we report, edit and correct our work.
Our Principles
- Accuracy: we verify facts using official statements, public records, documents and on-the-record sources before publishing.
- Fairness: we seek comment from people and organisations that are the subject of significant allegations.
- Independence: advertisers, sponsors and outside interests do not influence our coverage.
- Clarity: we separate news reporting from opinion and label opinion and sponsored content clearly.
- Sensitivity: we take care when reporting on crime, accidents, deaths and minors, and we avoid sensational language and graphic images.
Sources
We prefer named, on-the-record sources. We use anonymous sources only when the information is important to the public, cannot be obtained otherwise and has been verified. Information from social media is checked before we report it.
Editing Process
Every article is reviewed before publication for accuracy, clarity, fairness and legal risk. Headlines must reflect the content of the story. Breaking news may be published quickly and updated as facts are confirmed; updates are noted in the article.
Corrections Policy
When we make a factual error, we correct it promptly. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with a brief explanation of what was changed and when. Minor spelling or grammar fixes that do not change meaning may be made without a note. We do not remove articles simply because a subject finds them unflattering, but we will update stories when charges are dropped or new facts emerge.
How to Request a Correction
Email admin@lakecountyfloridanews.com with the article title or link, the error and the correct information, with a source if possible. We review every request.
