The state’s average gas price per gallon on Friday was $3.64, which is the same amount that drivers in Florida paid in mid-April. The price per gallon dropped three cents over the weekend.
At just 3 cents more per gallon than drivers paid at this time last year, it is significantly less than the highs of $3.85 and $4.89 per gallon set in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
According to a statement from AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins, “Drivers will be happy to hear that they may soon get a break from rising prices at the pump. The price of oil took a step back last week, enabling gasoline futures to drop 20 cents per gallon.”
After almost two months above $80 a barrel, the price of oil dropped below $80 on Wednesday and ended the week at $78.11, down 7% from the previous week. The cost of oil makes up around half of the cost of gasoline.
Jenkins stated, “Drivers should see gas prices steadily move lower this week unless those prices suddenly rebound.”
As is customary, the most costly urban market for drivers and motorcycle riders in the Sunshine State was the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton region, where Monday morning petrol prices were $3.77 per gallon. Naples ($3.70) and Panama City ($3.38) were the second and third most expensive areas.
The Crestview-Fort Walton Beach region had the lowest average gas price, at $3.35 per gallon, followed by Pensacola ($3.37) and Panama City ($3.38). At $5.35 a gallon, California has the highest gas prices in the country, while Mississippi has the lowest, at $3.11.
