Len Goodman’s retirement from television was announced just six months before he passed away. The top judge of the popular BBC show from its inception in 2004 until 2016 passed away in a hospice in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in early April 2023, only days before his 79th birthday.
The star’s agent released a statement saying, “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, at the age of 78.” Since then, tributes have poured in for Goodman. Sadly missed by his wife and children and his grandchildren and everybody who knew him.
It has just come to light that Goodman died of bone metastases from prostate cancer, as stated on his death certificate. In the United Kingdom, one in eight men will develop prostate cancer at some point in their lives.

According to Goodman’s representative, the Strictly Come Dancing judge “died peacefully, surrounded by his family” on April 22. Dancing with the Stars on ABC and the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing both had Goodman as a judge. After Season 31 of the ABC reality show, the famous TV host quit to devote more time to his family.
“It’s been a huge pleasure to be a huge part of such a wonderful show,” Goodman said back in November 2022 during the DWTS semi-final. “I cannot thank you enough, the DWTS family. It has been such a wonderful experience for me. I’m looking forward to next week’s finale. I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”
Goodman began his career as a professional dancer in the decades prior to his TV work, beginning on April 25, 1944, in London, where he was born. Goodman hosted a number of other television shows in addition to Strictly Come Dancing, including the BBC specials Len Goodman’s Dance Band Days and Len Goodman’s Perfect Christmas.
He has also recently made an unexpected appearance on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks and hosted the BBC One series Holiday of My Lifetime.
