It has been renewed for a 10-episode third season of the critically acclaimed Catherine the Great dramedy. During Disney’s Television Critics Association winter press tour session, the news was made.
Showrunner Tony McNamara (The Favourite) has created a satirical series starring Elle Fanning (Maleficent) as Russia’s longest-reigning female queen in a loose retelling of history. Catherine ascends to the throne in the second season, which premiered in November and follows her as she works to bring enlightenment to the kingdom.
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast in November if he knew how many seasons the show will have, McNamara said that he didn’t. There are “a lot of intriguing things that you can hang stuff on,” he stated. When it comes to the future, I don’t like to plan too far ahead.” Season two ended with me unsure of what season three would entail. I enjoy the mystery of what lies ahead. With an excellent cast and well-developed characters, you may improvise along the way.”
Three Critics’ Choice Awards are nominated for Season 2, which presently has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating. On the show, in addition to Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox and Adam Godley, there are also Gwilym Lee and Charity Wakefield.
In a joint venture with Penske Media, MRC is a co-owner of The Hollywood Reporter under the name P-MRC and is a partner in Civic Center Media’s The Great.
