Uncharted 2 Movie Release Date Status Confirmed Or Cancelled? [2022 Updated]

Sony has yet to officially confirm Uncharted 2 but no worries, we’re confident that it will happen. In an interview with Deadline in May 2022, Sony CEO Tom Rothman called the movie “a brand-new franchise for us.” The word “franchise” isn’t used to describe a one-off film, so Sony is clearly planning a sequel for Nate and Sully.

Despite the fact that Uncharted didn’t do well with critics, it still managed to gross over $400 million in early 2022. Given that the market was still unsure and the films doing well were, in general, established franchises, that’s not too shabby a return. In the same way that the Marvel Cinematic Universe films ended with a tease for what might come next, Uncharted ends with a tease for what might come next. In addition, there are four more video games to draw from, including the sequel to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Until Sony makes an official announcement, we can only speculate about Uncharted 2, so here’s everything we know so far.

Uncharted Movie Ending

At the end of Uncharted, there was a hint that Sam Drake, Nate’s brother, is still alive and in jail. Sam’s location is still unknown, but the fact that he hasn’t died sets up a second book and means Nate could keep looking for him. Bringing Sam back into the story could set up Nate and Sam’s next adventure and explain how he survived even though he was supposedly shot.

At the end of the movie, Gage, a character who works for Roman, a bad guy from the games, is introduced. Sir Francis Drake’s ring has caught Gage’s attention, and he is determined to get it. Uncharted 2 might look into the mystery of Nate’s ancestor, which could lead to a more personal treasure hunt than in the first movie.

Does Uncharted have a Sequel planned?

Does Uncharted have a sequel planned? This appears to be the case based on Sony’s response to the first film’s success. That’s why Sony has announced that they’ll be using Uncharted to launch an entirely new franchise. Although a sequel to Uncharted has yet to be officially announced, the studio has made it clear that this will be the first of many. Sony has a lot of material to work with when it comes to the Uncharted movies.

First, two of the nine Uncharted games were mentioned, but they weren’t explicitly mentioned in any way for the first film. Many new ideas have already been revealed by the film’s director, Ruben Fleischer. Sony has all but confirmed that Uncharted 2 will be released in the near future.

Uncharted 2 Cast

If there is an Uncharted 2, the main characters, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg could definitely come back. Sophia Ali will probably come back, too, since Chloe Frazer’s story was left unfinished. Since their characters died in the movie, it’s likely that Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle won’t come back.

Pilou Asbaek, who was in the end credits scene of Uncharted, might have a bigger part in the sequel, along with whoever might be cast as Sam Drake as an adult. Elena Fisher, who will become Nate’s wife in the games, could also be in Uncharted 2.

Uncharted 2 Date of Release

Uncharted took a long time to make. They lost directors, changed who played Nathan Drake (Wahlberg was up for the role before he played Sully), and had other delays, so when it finally came out, it seemed like a miracle. Once the production of Uncharted 2 receives the official go-ahead, the release date of the sequel could be moved up to as early as the spring of 2024.

This is probably due to the fact that it won’t be faced with as many of the challenges that were encountered during the production of the first movie. This is assuming, of course, that Sony will make a decision regarding a sequel sooner rather than later. The production cycle for sequels typically lasts between two and three years, which means that 2025 might be the latest release date if everything goes according to plan behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, there is no footage for a thrilling Uncharted 2 trailer because filming has not yet begun. Fans can expect to see Nathan and Sully’s first teaser clip a few months before the film’s release once production begins.
