Drummer Fred White Cause of Death: Fred White, a former Earth, Wind & Fire member, and the band’s drummer, has passed away. He was 67.
Verdine White, the percussionist’s brother and also a band member, broke the devastating news on Sunday via social media (Jan. 1). At the time this article was being written, neither the date nor the date the circumstances behind White’s passing had been made public.
“Today, our family is grieving the loss of an extraordinary and brilliant family member. Our cherished older brother Frederick Eugene “Freddie” White,” Verdine White, posted on Instagram with images of his older brother.
“He is now drumming with the angels and has joined our brothers Maurice, Monte, and Ronald in heaven,” he continued. “He will be greatly missed.” “He was the fantastic brother who was constantly amusing and delightfully naughty! And we knew that no matter what was going on, we could always count on him to make us laugh despite the gravity of the situation.
Fred White was born on the 13th of January in 1955 in Chicago. He started playing the drums when he was nine years old and went on to perform with Linda Ronstadt and Donny Hathaway before becoming a member of Earth, Wind, and Fire in 1974. The Grammy Award–winning R&B band included him as the fourth of the White brothers to perform in it.
