Jessie Lemonier, a former linebacker for the Detroit Lions, passed away on Thursday, the organization announced. He was 25. Instead, Lemonier signed with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL for the 2018 season before being moved to the Birmingham Stallions. The Arlington Renegades of the XFL initially selected Lemonier in November.

During the 2021 season, he played seven games for the Lions and recorded 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He was released during training camp after signing with the Arizona Cardinals last summer and recording a bag in a preseason game.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier.” “Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Lemonier and his partner are expecting a kid, according to his agent Drew Smith of DEC Management, who spoke to ESPN. Lemonier, a Hialeah, Florida native, signed his first contract with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Liberty. He participated in six games and made two tackles.
