Tourette syndrome is a neurological illness that Lewis Capaldi has revealed he suffers from. The disorder leads him to make involuntary, repetitive movements and sounds. During an Instagram live, the musician revealed that he had been misdiagnosed for a while after noting, “My shoulder twitches when I am excited, happy, nervous, or stressed,” before finally getting a proper diagnosis. His diagnosis was something he wanted to share with his fans because he “didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something,” and he said, “It is something I am living with.”
He remarked, “I can tell that I’m doing it when I look back at my interviews from 2018. Capaldi has been injecting botulinum toxin into his shoulder on a regular basis and claims that he is “learning new ways to cope all the time.”
Singer Billie Eilish, who was diagnosed with the disorder as a child, is only one of the estimated 1.4 million Americans and 300,000 Britons who live with the condition. “I’ve never mentioned [Tourette syndrome] on the internet because nobody thinks I’m dead-ass [serious],” she wrote on Twitter. “As well as the fact that I’ve just never wanted people to think of Tourettes every time they think of me.”

Tourettes Action chief executive Emma McNally told the Guardian that while the disorder affects 1 in 100 school-aged children, the general public believes that only a small percentage of people are affected by it.
