Murillo recently tied the knot with singer/songwriter Tori Kelly, who is quite the talent herself. The couple’s union is founded on unwavering trust and belief in one another. Even though Murillo has given up basketball for good, his story of perseverance, drive, and faith continues to move and motivate people.
Murillo’s basketball career started at El Toro High in Lake Forest, California. He went on to play basketball at Concordia University before being kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons. Murillo returned to Biola University to finish his basketball career after being expelled.
Due to a career-ending injury, Murillo announced his retirement from basketball in 2019. There’s more to his story than just basketball glory, though. Murillo had a near-death experience after being stabbed during a social gathering. After leaving the hospital, he began self-medicating with drugs to cope with the pain. This was the turning point in his life.
Faith brought Murillo comfort, and he eventually turned to God for aid with his addiction. To start afresh and rediscover his passion for basketball, he enrolled at Biola University. Murillo owes tremendous gratitude to Dave Holmquist, his basketball coach at Biola University.
