According to a recorded investigation on his death held this morning, August 4, at Avon Coroner’s Court, the 31-year-old’s phone rang at the bottom of the gorge, and police were told of his location.

Mr. Day, a former cinematographer from New Zealand, was located by a rope rescue squad from the Avon Fire and Rescue Service about 30 meters down the cliff’s edge, shrouded in shrubbery.

The autopsy report concluded that Mr. Day died from various injuries sustained in a fall, but there were no major toxicological findings. Therefore, their deaths were caused by Joseph Day’s accident.

Since the coroner’s investigation into Joseph’s death has not yet concluded, his passing is still being treated as unexplained by his loved ones. Based on the facts the authorities have given us, my family and I are confident that Joseph was involved in a terrible accident.
