Erica Kennedy, a writer and former fashion publicist, was found dead in her Miami Beach apartment at the age of 42.

Authorities confirmed that Kennedy, born Erica Kennedy Johnson, was discovered deceased last week. The cause of her death has not been disclosed immediately. Her aunt, Sarah Robinson, also known as Aunt Porgy, expressed the family’s grief in a statement, describing Kennedy as bright, funny, talented, thoughtful, and passionate.
Kennedy’s career began as a special correspondent for the New York Daily News. She later wrote for various magazines, including Vibe, In Style, Paper, and Elle UK. In 2004, she published the hip-hop satire “Bling,” which she designed the cover for and became a New York Times bestseller.
It was later optioned for a film by The Weinstein Company. Her second novel, “Feminista,” came out in 2009. Besides writing, Kennedy worked as a creative consultant for fashion and lifestyle brands and was active on Twitter.

Erica Kennedy’s Personal Life
Erica Kennedy Johnson was born on March 24, 1970. She lost her father at 17 and was raised by her mother, Mary Mobley Johnson, an interior designer, in Bayside, Queens. She grew up with her brother, Kirk Johnson, and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1992 with a liberal arts degree.
She also attended Oxford University. Kennedy was close friends with model and TV personality Kimora Lee Simmons. She served as maid of honor at her wedding to Russell Simmons and as godmother to their daughters, Ming and Aoki.
