Kamar De Los Reyes Death

Actor Kamar de los Reyes, of Puerto Rican descent, passed away on Sunday in Los Angeles. He was famous for his roles as “One Life to Live” police officer Antonio Vega and “Call of Duty” villain Raul Menendez. In age, he was 56.

Lisa Goldberg, who was his wife Sherri Saum’s publicist, said that he died of cancer. De los Reyes’s parents were Walfredo de los Reyes, a Cuban, and Matilde Pages, a Puerto Rican. She was born on November 8, 1967, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He proudly claimed to have come “from a family of musicians”—his grandfather was a well-known trumpet player, and his two brothers and father were all well-regarded percussionists. After finishing high school in Sin City, De los Reyes uprooted her life and headed west to pursue a career in acting.

However, he initially gained recognition in New York City, playing the part of Pedro Quinn in the Off Broadway production of “Blade to the Heat.” In 1994, his performance was hailed as the show’s “most arresting” by The New York Times.

“More than any words he utters, the actor’s haunted eyes, sunken cheeks, and shaved head convey the extent of Pedro’s torment,” David Richards, The Times’s theater critic, wrote. “In repose, he’s almost spectral. In the ring, he’s like a short circuit, and his silent scream of triumph is a guaranteed spine-tingler.”

“One Life to Live” was his longest-running and most famous role, in which he played the part of Antonio Vega, a gangster-turned-police officer. Between 1995 and 1998, as well as 2000 and 2009, De los Reyes made approximately 300 appearances.

His protagonist has a string of love affairs after serving a life sentence for murder; upon his release, it is established that he was defending himself. He then becomes a police officer. From 2001 until 2003, before the two actors were married, Saum portrayed Keri Reynolds on the show. Their characters were romantically engaged.

The trailblazing drama, which aired on ABC primarily from 1968 to 2012, had an unprecedentedly diverse ensemble, featuring daytime television’s first leading Black actor.

“You don’t see much of, not only on daytime but prime time television overall, and is something I feel network television needs to work harder on,” De los Reyes said of the show in a 2007 interview with Urban Latino magazine.

He went on to say that the show had an all-Latino family, specifically a Puerto Rican one. “I think ‘One Life to Live’ has done a formidable job of that,” he added.

In addition to “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” and “Call of Duty: Vanguard,” De los Reyes provided the voice for the antagonist Raul Menendez in “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” (2012). A lot of people think he’s one of the best villains in the series.

According to his wife’s publicist, he had recently shot parts in the miniseries “Washington Black” and the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again.” He was also filming the CW sports drama “All American” when he passed away.

His mother and father, along with his three sons Caylen, Michael, and John, as well as his siblings Daniel and Walfredo Jr., sisters Lily and Ilde, and his wife Sherri Saum, are among those who will carry on De los Reyes’ legacy.
