Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that when deputies arrived, they discovered a suspect had gone into the store portion of the establishment and approached the two clerks.
The offender asked the clerks for money while holding a black gun. According to Covelli, he grabbed money from the register and drove off in a black SUV. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
After the incident, the sheriff’s office made the suspect’s surveillance photos public, and detectives got to work on the case. Technicians for evidence arrived at the store and handled the scene.
According to Covelli, investigators discovered the suspect fit the description of the perpetrator from an armed robbery that took place at a truck stop in Channahon in October 2023.
Additionally, investigators discovered that the suspect fit the description of a perpetrator involved in an armed truck stop robbery that took place in Jasper County, Indiana, in November 2023.
On November 9, Christopher L. Cannon, 43, of Chicago was pulled over by the authorities in Indiana. In Jasper County, Indiana, he was taken into custody and accused of armed robbery.
According to Covelli, Cannon was dressed in apparel that matched the description of what was worn in the armed robbery at Wadsworth. A gun that matched the description of the gun used in the Wadsworth armed robbery was found inside Cannon’s car.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office examined the case with the sheriff’s investigators and authorized the charge of armed robbery, a Class X felony.
A judge saw the detectives in front of him and issued an arrest order for Cannon. Cannon was found guilty of the Jasper County robbery earlier this month and was given a six-year sentence to serve in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
He is presently being kept in custody in Indiana. His extradition to Illinois to face his remaining accusations is not yet known.
