Hubberman said, “Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town’s rapid success with ‘Butterfly,’ never managed to effectively deal with his addictions. We all tried, but ultimately we failed, or Shifty would still be here.” The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is awaiting the toxicology report before officially listing a cause of death.
Binzer had a long history of substance abuse but had posted emotionally about his sobriety just two months ago, writing on his official Instagram page, “I’m a lover than a fighter… but the one I need to love more instead of fighting with is myself… mr shifty true Love # Sober alive and grateful.”
Throughout his life, the singer struggled with drug addiction and was featured on TV shows like Celebrity Rehab and Sober House in his attempts to get clean. In a 2001 interview with Rolling Stone, Binzer admitted to selling drugs for several years and spending three months in the California Institution for Men following an attempted burglary.
