An alligator was on a Central Florida high school campus and had to be removed by local law enforcement.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to Tohopekaliga High School in Kissimmee after the School Resource Officer reported an alligator on campus. The alligator was located in the school’s baseball bullpen while the football team practiced nearby.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Community Services Sergeant Drew and deputies quickly captured and relocated the animal to a suitable habitat, removing any risk to students, staff, and athletic programs. School activities resumed without incident.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that alligators are native to Florida and may be present near any body of fresh water. Parents should teach children to keep a safe distance from alligators, never approach, feed, or provoke them, and to notify a trusted adult immediately if one is seen. Children should not play near the edges of ponds, lakes, canals, or retention ponds without adult supervision, as alligators may be present even if not visible. Pets should be leashed and kept away from the water’s edge, as they can attract alligators.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said that if you encounter an alligator in an unsafe location, do not approach or attempt to handle it.
