A man was sentenced for brutal crimes against a 93-year-old in Orange County.
Due to the heinous nature of the crime, the state of Florida sought the death penalty in the case.
State Attorney Monique Worrell recently announced that 58-year-old Javier Rosado Martinez was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal murder and attempted rape of 93-year-old Dolores Padilla-Marrero in 2022.
Following the jury’s recommendation, the court sentenced Rosado Martinez to life in prison without the possibility of paraole on the murder conviction. He also received five years in the Florida Department of Corrections for the attempted sexual battery conviction, to be served consecutively to the life sentence, according to the State Attorney.
“Ms. Padilla-Marrero was a woman who opened her home to someone she trusted—and he repaid that trust with unspeakable violence,” said State Attorney Monique Worrell. “This verdict is for her. It is for every family that has ever had to bury someone they loved because a predator hid behind a familiar face. This sentence ensures that Javier Rosado Martinez will never again have the opportunity to harm another person. While no sentence can ever undo the unimaginable pain this family has endured, today’s outcome delivers justice by holding the defendant fully accountable for his horrific crimes. Our hearts remain with Ms. Padilla-Marrero’s loved ones, whose strength throughout this difficult process has been extraordinary. We hope this verdict and sentence provides some measure of closure as they continue to grieve.”
The Office of the State Attorney thanked the jurors for their careful attention throughout the trial and recognized the dedicated work of law enforcement and all those who helped bring this case to justice.
