The network news program mentioned Griffin’s family but did not provide additional information on his cancer diagnosis. Griffin’s journalism career was as distinguished as his life, earning him honors like the Emmy, the Murrow, and the Peabody for his coverage of politics, sports, business, and medicine.

CNN CEO and chairman Chris Licht wrote an open letter to employees on Monday, lamenting Griffin’s passing as “a devastating loss to CNN and our whole profession” and praising his “power to convince even the most antagonistic of interviewees to open up.” The impact of Drew’s work was tremendous, and he personified the organization’s objective, Licht added. Truth-telling and holding those in positions of authority accountable were essential to him. He hit hard, but he never cheated.

Griffin was an integral element of CNN’s investigative team for nearly 20 years, contributing to countless reports and documentaries. Michael Bass, the Executive Vice President of Programming at CNN, penned the following in a message that was distributed to the investigative team on Sunday:

“He was both fearless and artistic at the same time; he knew how to take a tale to its logical conclusion while still relating it straightforwardly to everyone. How many times has he pursued a subject who refused to be interviewed? How many times has he confronted those in authority with the truth? How often has he been instrumental in the outcome of anything that matters…

“It was a privilege to work beside him and to observe firsthand the impact his contributions had on the globe.
Chris Licht, the CEO of CNN, said, “Drew’s passing is a sad loss to CNN and our whole profession.” “Drew was a highly regarded investigative journalist, and his work had a significant impact. His contributions exemplified our organization’s objective in every possible manner. During the 8 o’clock hour of CNN on Monday, Don Lemon delivered the heartbreaking announcement of the tragic news.
