Police from Palm Bay arrived at the Stillwater Lakes community on April 14 after the kids stated that a guy, later identified as Tate, had approached them holding a gun and told them to leave his land.
The children were fishing on the south side of the subdivision’s lake, which Tate does not own, according to the officers. News outlets were able to confirm that Tate is the president of the HOA.
Tate grabbed their fishing gear, including rods, reels, tackle boxes with lures, and cast nets, and tossed them into the nearby woods, deliberately causing damage to their equipment, according to officials. Additionally, he reportedly took one of the kids’ phones, which has not been located. Altogether, the belongings taken and the missing phone were estimated to be worth around $3,700.
The children were seven, ten, and fifteen years old. The mother of the 7- and 15-year-olds claims her children have gone fishing there previously without any issues. Tate was taken into custody and lodged in the Brevard County prison. He was eventually released after posting bond.
