Luis Guzman is a Puerto Rican actor known for playing different characters. Guzmán has mostly played sidekicks, bad guys, and police officers for a large part of his career.
Guzmán was in Out of Sight, The Limey, and Traffic, all of which were directed by Steven Soderbergh. He was also in Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch-Drunk Love, all of which were directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. He was in How to Make It in America, which was made by HBO, and Narcos, which was made by Netflix. He also played senior nurse Jesse “Mama” Salander on the CBS medical drama Code Black.

Luis Guzman was reared in New York City’s Greenwich Village by his mother Rosa, a hospital employee, and his stepfather Benjamin Cardona, a TV repairman. He was born on August 28, 1956, in Cayey, Puerto Rico. After completing his studies at City College, he spent some time working as a teenage counselor at the Henry Street Settlement House.

Guzman started her career as a social worker in New York. Later, she became a stage actor. His film credits include Punch-Drunk Love, Welcome to Collinwood, Stonewall, The Salton Sea, and Waiting. Luis Guzman’s Marital Status
Luis Guzman is without a doubt a happy family man. He married Angelita Galarza-Guzman in 1985, and they are still very happy together. After 6 years of marriage, they had their first child, but their son died in 1991 because he suffocated while he was being born. Guzman and Angelita were broken on the inside in every way. He didn’t go to work for two months because he was upset.
“My wife and I lost our first son when he was a baby. This took a lot of emotional energy from me, as it would from anyone. And I couldn’t see myself doing social work again. It had become too bureaucratic, and I just felt like it was time to try something new.”
Their first child, Cemi Briggs-Guzman, was born in the same year. After that, the couple adopted a daughter, Yemaya Briggs-Guzman, as well as Yoruba and Margarita Briggs-Guzman, who were twins.
