Sandy Joseph, Walsh’s longtime director, revealed that the actor had died on Tuesday at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vermont, due to a heart attack.

The New York Post says that Walsh told Joseph, “I approach each job thinking it might be my last, so it better be the best work possible. I want to be remembered as a working actor. I’m being paid for what I’d do for nothing.”

The statement stated, “Walsh’s tremendous body of work includes 119 feature films and more than 250 television productions.”

Walsh was in a whole bunch of movies and TV shows, like Blade Runner, Little Big Man, Knives Out, Army Wives, The Guardian, Big Stan, and many more.

Steve Hayes, one of Walsh’s friends, wrote on Twitter,  “Farewell M. EMMET WALSH—character actor supreme. There were times when it seemed like he was in everything & we were always grateful he was. The parts are all your children. They’ll be my epitaph when they throw in that last shovelful of dirt.”

Rian Johnson also wrote, “Emmet came to set with 2 things: a copy of his credits, which was a small-type single spaced double column list of modern classics that filled a whole page, & two-dollar bills which he passed out to the entire crew. “Don’t spend it and you’ll never be broke.” Absolute legend.”

Walsh Loved Taking On Different Roles

Walsh said in 2015, “I don’t want to play the same type of character 10 times. I want to be a garbage collector in one film and a governor in the next.”

He added, “I got a degree in business administration and marketing. That background taught me to live modestly when you’re working so you can survive on your savings when things aren’t going so well.”

“I’ve had actor friends who made 10 times the money I did, but they have nothing now. I knew what to do with a dollar.”
