OPD admitted that downtown Orlando is a “challenging environment” as it remains a focus for law enforcement.
In a recent update about downtown, the Orlando Police Department said it remains focused on reducing crime through proactive enforcement. In the first half of the year, OPD already made over 1,700 arrests.
OPD also provided some data from January through June 2026, stating overall crime in downtown Orlando decreased 19% compared to the same period last year.
During this time, Orlando Police Department officers:
- Made 1,712 arrests
- Seized 69 illegal firearms
- Investigated zero homicides
- Reduced shootings by 100%
- Reduced burglaries by 4%
“These results are driven by proactive policing, targeted enforcement, and officers who remain committed to identifying criminal activity, removing illegal guns from our streets, and holding offenders accountable,” OPD posted.
Still, many in the Central Florida community do not feel safe when going downtown if they go at all and Mayor Buddy Dyer has largely ignored the issue publicly nor taken any accountability for his administration’s failures in downtown.
