Orange County Democrats responded to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ local Commissioner appointment.
After the Republican Governor announced the appointment of Mike Crabb as the new District 2 Orange County Commissioner, the Orange County Democratic Party issued a statement against the action.
“Governor Ron DeSantis has once again chosen to meddle in Orange County’s local government,” the Orange County Democratic Party stated. “With early voting already underway and the election just weeks away, his decision to appoint Mike Crabb to the Orange County Commission shows a complete disregard for the voters of District 2. At a time when residents are already casting their ballots, the people of Orange County should be the ones deciding who represents them.”
Local Democrats said this was a pattern of the Republican Governor and said the voters should be the ones deciding this matter.
“For years, Governor DeSantis has repeatedly inserted himself into local decisions in Orange County,” the local Democratic Party continued. “This latest appointment continues that pattern and, given the timing, undermines the principle that voters should choose their own representatives. We look forward to the people of District 2 making their voices hear in August and again in November by electing a Democratic County Commissioner who will fight for our community and be accountable to the voters.”
Mike Crabb is currently a candidate for District 2 Orange County Commissioner, and he is running against other candidates in the race: Kamia Brown, George Oliver III, Marsha Summersill, and former Orange County Democratic Party Chair Wes Hodge.
