Randall Bryant Obituary: On Thursday, January 26, 2023, after a brief illness, Randall Javann Bryant of Taylorsville passed away. Randy Kuykendall, a cherished family patriarch, was born to Hattie Regina Kuykendall on November 30, 1943, in Lenoir.

After finishing high school in 1962, Randy went to work as a salesman at Phil’s Shoes, where he met the woman he would later marry, Connie. Randy started Sagittarius Sales in his basement in 1975 to serve the furniture business with industrial cleaning products and materials.

He has a strong sense of independence and a penchant for doing things his own way. Sagittarius Sales was founded in 1979 and flourished under Randy’s commercial acumen; today, his kids run the company and it remains successful.

Randy’s interests outside of work included ACC basketball, NASCAR racing, and Southern food, especially Lexington-style barbecue. Randy has always been interested in learning about different peoples and their histories. He visited several foreign nations with the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Randy took his sons and nephews on battlefield tours so that they may share in his enthusiasm for history. Randy put in long hours growing his company, yet he also managed to find fun and educational activities for his kids and wife.

Randy and Connie moved into the historic Tatum House in Taylorsville in the late ’80s, and Randy took great pride in renovating and preserving the home. Randy enjoyed the quiet, uncomplicated lifestyle that Taylorsville provided, where his loved ones and his home were his top priorities.

Randy is survived by his wife, Constance Elder Bryant of Taylorsville; sons, Van and Travis Bryant, both of Hickory; brothers-in-law, Richard Elder of Taylorsville, David Elder of Hickory, and Elbert Goble of Taylorsville; and sister-in-law, Susan Elder of Taylorsville.

Funeral Process

The funeral home chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory will be the site of a memorial ceremony on Saturday, February 18 at 2 p.m. An hour before the ceremony, the family will hold a visitation at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.
