“I am deeply indebted to everyone at FX and 20th for allowing us to continue to tell the stories of the characters that Kurt [Sutter] and I created and whom our cast and crew took to new heights in Season 3,” James said in a statement (via Deadline).
“In season four we look forward to diving deeper into each character’s truths, exploring the danger of the combustible world they inhabit, and for each writer, cast member and crew to stake out our place as storytellers.”

“This season, we dealt with consequences, and I think we’re going to continue to,” James told Deadline. “I think everything is going to continue to spiral…So much of EZ and Gaby’s story was the story of me and my wife, who started dating me when I was still in the gang. So, [with] where he will go now, it’s like I’m exploring what would have happened if she had left, if she didn’t have the patience that she had, if she hadn’t have given me a second chance.”
He concluded: “I think [with] EZ, what we always talked about is, there’s this inevitability. No matter what, he was always going to end up in this place. There’s just a darkness he can’t help but get swallowed up in, and I think that’s what we’re going to watch.
“We’ve watched him for three seasons try to get out of the darkness, and I think now… he’s f**king in it.”
In the last episode of the third season, a character was shot dead.
“There definitely was a gunshot,” James told EW. “If I remember correctly, EZ looks towards the templo when he heard the gunshot.”
James also discussed whether Isaac [JR Bourne] will continue to play a role moving forwards after he was killed: “We have to wait and see what happens with him. [Bourne] is my dude, he was in my movie Little Birds. What he brought this season, man, people love to hate him. When we shot those Meth Mountain scenes, it was 32 degrees. So will we go back there? We may. Are we done with Isaac? Who knows?”
