Liz Feldman’s Emmy-nominated comedic thriller Dead to Me speeds by like a page-turning summer beach read with its numerous juicy turns and captivating crime-fueled drama. Known for its sense of humor, the deft handling of trauma, and the breadcrumbs of jaw-dropping revelations, the series, starring Golden Globe nominee Christina Applegate and Golden Globe winner Linda Cardellini, follows a messed-up pair of Laguna Beach BFFs who meet through tragedy and come together over their shared love of The Facts of Life and Entenmann’s.
According to the show’s official Twitter account, Season 2 will premiere in May 2020 with a wild type of cliffhanger among other open-ended questions that the series seems set to answer with its third part. Dead to Me Season 3 is still up in the air, but here’s everything we know so far about the Netflix series’ Thelma and Louise.
Dead To Me Season 3 Release Date: Is It Coming?
Dead to Me will return for a third and final season on Netflix in July 2020. Liz Feldman, the show’s creator, tells Deadline that she didn’t want for the show to be a long one in the first place. While working on Season 2, Feldman planned out how the show would finish, so don’t worry: Jen and Judy’s friendship will come to a satisfying conclusion.
According to Feldman, the finale of Season 2 came to him “quite profoundly” while filming and he decided “I know the tale I have to tell,” and Season 3 seemed like the proper moment for it. This was something that just came to me, and I usually go with what my instincts tell me to do.
Are there any plans for a third season of Dead to Me?
The time is ticking down, shouldn’t it? After three weeks of production, the show was set to end up in early 2022, according to a Deadline report from December of that year.
Production began in May 2021, but it was temporarily halted in August when actor Christina Applegate tweeted that she had recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a degenerative disease. She wrote on Twitter, “My MS was officially diagnosed a few months ago. Things have taken an odd turn of late. However, I’ve received a lot of support from folks I know who suffer from the same ailment as me. A long and winding road.
However, as we are well aware, the journey continues. Unless, of course, some jerk decides to stand in the way.” Her other post said, “”We wake up and take the indicated action,” as one of my MS friends put it. The same is true for me. As a result, I must request your respect for my right to privacy. As I work my way through this. You’re welcome. xo”
There is a good chance that some of Season 3 went through postproduction around the time that production resumed in fall 2021. In the spring of 2022, we expect our final check-in with Jen and Judy to be our final one. Earlier this year, Applegate tweeted that new episodes would be coming “soon,” so spring is a good guess.
Dead To Me Season 3: How Many Episodes Show Have?
It’s not certain how many episodes the final season will have, but considering that Seasons 1 and 2 both had ten, it’s a safe bet.
Even though the twisting crime thriller has a lot of bloodsheds, the main characters have so far escaped death. They may have been in a vehicle accident at the end of Season 2, but you can bet they’ll be back for Season 3. Their often toxic, sometimes reliable friendship is central to the program, therefore they’ll be around for the duration of its run.
Also returning will be Ben, played by James Marsden. At the end of Season 1, when Jen killed Steve, Judy’s ex-fiancé, it appeared Marsden would not be returning. This is one of the most common soap opera gimmicks in the book: Dead to Me brought back Marsden as Steve’s twin brother Ben, since who doesn’t want more of the actor? As long as Ben is still involved in the same saga as Jen and Judy, he’ll be back. The upcoming episodes, Liz Feldman tells Entertainment Weekly, will see “Ben go on quite a journey”.
There will be more of Marsden’s character, Steve, in the future. That implies flashbacks at this moment, but we may expect to discover more about his malicious dealings in the future.
Also, Jen’s children Charlie (Sam McCarthy) and Henry, who are both in the cast, and her obnoxious neighbor Karen (Suzy Nakamura), as well as the cops Ana Perez (Diana Maria Riva) and Nick Prager, should be included (Brandon Scott). Perhaps we’ll see more of Howard Hastings, the corrupt police chief who was discovered at the end of Season 2 to be collaborating with the mob.
There were a few intriguing new elements introduced last season, but it wasn’t obvious if we’d see more of them in the future. Linda Cardellini fan account on Twitter claims that Judy’s mother Katey Sagal and Michelle’s co-star Natalie Morales were sighted on the set. Though we have no idea how much we’ll see of them now that Judy’s mother is behind bars, their ties to one another could become even more essential to the story.
Season 2 cast member Frances Conroy, who played Ben and Steve’s mother Eileen Woods, is currently on the bubble as to whether or not she will return.

Dead To Me Season 3: What is the plot of Season 3 of Dead to Me?
There are two secrets that Season 1 and Season 2 focused on—the first being that Judy was engaged in a hit and run that murdered Jen’s husband, the second being that she didn’t actually kill Steve in self-defense—and Season 3 is set to focus on a third mystery.
Liz Feldman, the show’s executive producer, told Refinery29 that she had a good idea of where Season 3 would go based on how Season 2 concluded. So, now there’s another one with a secret, she remarked. Since Ben smashed into Jen and Judy while driving under the influence and then drove away from the scene, that’s probably what he’s being referenced to.
The “continuous give and take of, Do you tell someone something if you know it would hurt them?” is something Feldman is interested in investigating further. As a result, the following part should focus on Ben’s decision to abandon the accident, which may have resulted in Jen’s injury, and the ensuing legal proceedings.
To TV Guide, James Marsden even hinted at the prospect of a third season focusing on Ben’s growing list of problems. He stated, “His brother’s death may have been the result of a hit-and-run, but he’s also likely to learn that Jen was involved. To make matters worse, they had been struck and run over. In the first season, his brother was found guilty of a hit-and-run… In my opinion, [Ben] is making a conscious effort to look in the mirror when no one else is watching and do the right thing, but at times the pressures can overwhelm.”

Final Lines
Even with all the cameras in Jen’s neighborhood, “the forces” are bound to “overwhelm,” and Ben’s secret will likely be exposed sooner rather than later. It appears that he is responsible for more than just driving away from the scene of the accident, based on paparazzi photos of Christina Applegate in a wheelchair on the set.
In Season 3, Jen and Judy may try to use Ben as a bargaining chip, if that information is made public. Now that Steve is dead and the investigation is still going on and evidence is accumulating against Jen and Judy, Detective Perez may have had to make some kind of bargain with Ben so that the two of them would remain quiet about their separate crimes if they can link them to the crime.
That money laundering plot and connection to the Greek mafia could return in Season 3 as well, it seems. In addition to the head of police, we have yet to meet any of the nefarious characters that Steve worked with while he was alive, so expect a lot more of that in the following season.
Hopefully, Jen, Judy, and Agent Perez can get the mob to stop covering up for the women’s misdeeds, but who knows? No matter how hard the SoCal pals try, their secrets just can’t remain private.
